Mr Lynn reads his farewell cards.
Retired Bald Knob Janitor
'Was Like Another Father'

Boyd Lynn retired on March 4th, 1983, after almost 40 years of service to the Franklin County school system. He was reared within two miles of Bald Knob School and attended the old school before the present school was constructed. In 1944 he began driving a school bus, and in 1947 he became the school's custodian. His wife, the former Dorothy Rayborn, worked alongside her husband for 29 years until illness forced her retirement.

During their years at the school, the Lynns developed traditions that caught the eyes of their co-workers. One was Boyd's obsessive cleanliness and his disdain for disorder. Another was his unvarying punctuality and his willingness to put forth extra effort -- special attention to the gym floor before games and programs, a fresh coat of paint here and there, repair work on an ailing desk or chair, or the way he kept the halls spotless even in inclement weather.

Mr Lynn was honored at a school assembly on March 4th, 1983, when he received a wheelbarrowful of handmade farewell cards from the students. He also received recognition from his colleagues and gold plaque from the school system.

Mrs Lynn died Sept 5th, 1983, and he passed away October 16th, 1985.
