Mr William Phillips Outstanding Service Noted Mr Phillips workdays began at 7am, when he left home in a school bus, and ended about 5pm, when he returned to his home in the same school bus to wait for another day.   He drove a morning bus route, hauled four truckloads of water to keep the schools cistern filled, drove an afternoon bus route, and returned to school to clean the second floor classrooms.   If a teacher, some special class, or an atheletic team needed to work after school, Mr Phillips gave them a ride home. He wasn't seen around school very much, but he surely would have been missed if he hadn't been there! Mr Phillips worked for Bald Knob School from the late 1930's to the late 1940's.   At some time during those years, five of his seven children were students.   Also, his wife, the former Mary Ross, was head cook in the school cafeteria.   She was efficient, cooperative and cheerful and never complained about food shortages and ration stamps. Mrs Phillips died in 1969 and Mr Phillips passed away in 1973. |
