What does this have to do with genealogy?
Well, if you wanted to stretch it, I guess that anywhere you can find a name it may be of interest to you, even if it's some old 'hot rodders'.     Boy, I wish there was a cumulative index to all the old hot rod and car rags.     Even better would be a DVD or three with all the original issues, each page scanned, and of course, with a searchable index.   Anyone out there know of one?

I've wondered what happened to some of the great drag racers and hot rodders of Kentucky.   Remember the Frakes n Funk dragster in the 60s and 70s?   What about Joe Williamson, who won Modified Comp Eliminator in a wild 6-cyl powered T-bucket roadster like 6 times? (He was doing round-track racing at Louisville Motor Speedway, til it closed circa 2001).

Today, in drag racing circles, a Kentuckian on top of his game is Lexington's Darrell Alderman, who drives Pro Stock on the NHRA circuit.   He's part of a multi-million dollar operation and is in the professional ranks of the sport.   Darrell won back-to-back world titles in the early 1990s, and after a brief hiatus, came back and is still a terror on the strip.

Until a DVD exists, here are some selected issues.
Car Craft magazine, May 1968.
Hot Rod magazine, Oct 1968 (indexed).
Hot Rod magazine, Feb 1969 (indexed).
Hot Rod magazine, Sep 1979 (indexed).
For a while, 1999-thru-26-Sep-2001, this web site Hot Rod Magazine Archives attempted to serve up articles to the public.   They had an article index, including articles classified by car type, but no full-name personal index.   The above link has archived versions of the home page.

Here's another site with a subjet index and back issues coltraNet.
