DeedMapper, software for creating maps of your ancestors land, and much more.   This software is by a fellow by the name of Broyles, with Kentucky roots.   Visit his web pages, to read more about his software, plus the growing collection plotted land deeds available for download.   He has over 700 plotted deeds on Whitley Co, Kentucky, alone!   It's one thing to view a name index of deeds, but to be able to see the lands plotted on a map really brings land data alive. If you use his software, you can plot your deeds on top of electronic maps that you can get from DeedMapper for a reasonable fee.   This way, you can see your plotted deeds with watercourses and more.
PC Backup and Recovery,
how I do it.

GED2KGI (29k), a program that I wrote for myself, in support of the Kentucky Genealogical Index.  The KGI has over 150 GED2KGI files, produced from GEDCOM files submitted by KGS members.
GED2KGI reads a GEDCOM file, and writes GED2KGI, a text file with 1 line per person, with that person's vital data, if present. No relationships are shown in a GED2KGI file. A GED2KGI file is something that you might share with others, especially with folks over the web. This way, they can find out who you have in your database, but still have to contact you for more info.
And since each person's vital data is there, folks can better determine if their John Smith is your John Smith, which helps eliminate false requests to you for more information.

GED2KGI has no DOC file. Run it for its built-in documentation.
You may find other uses for GED2KGI files. Feedback welcome.

R3GED2FT (33k), a program that I wrote for myself, to aid me in transferring data from Roots III to Family Tree Maker for Windows.
R3GED2FT reads a Roots III generated GEDCOM file and writes a new GEDCOM 5.x file, one that allows more of my Roots III data to be imported into FTMW.
The program has no DOC file, just run it and you will see its built-in documentation.
version, dated 30-Jan-98. This version picks up SOURce tags with references to Major FootNotes. Currently, only the TITLe is picked up from the Major Footnote record, but I hope to get the AUTHor name, REPOsitory and perhaps the remaining fields.

Because Family Tree Maker is a little weak in documentation of a GEDCOM import, I have created (below) Additional Documentation with step-by-step procedures for the process, with screen shots.
R3GED2FT is public domain. If you find it useful, a donation, of say $5,
to the Kentucky Genealogical Society would be appreciated.
Roots III, a DOS program, by Commsoft Inc, is no longer sold.
FTMW is by Banner Blue Inc, a division of Broderbund Inc.
Additional R3GED2FT Documentation (140k) is available as a web page,
or you can download it in a zipped Word7 document (76k).

Having problems with Family Tree Maker? You're not alone. Rod Davis has documented over 125 problems on his FTM Warts web page.

I must've bought every model PC that Radio Shack made.

Brothers Keeper for Windows I downloaded it in Summer 1996 and I am impressed by its capabilities. It has no built-in image-editor that I can see, just a viewer, but it does allow these images to be printed on most, if not all, reports. The linking of picture files to people is a little awkward, but that may be addressed sometime down the road, I hope.
