I don't really remember when or how I first met Jack. It probably had something to do with the fact that we both were trying to use PCs in organizing our family data. We both had TRS80 PCs, mine being a Model I, and Jack's a more powerful Model II, which was intended more for businesses than home use. Back then, Jack's machine cost probably $5000 or more.
It had a Z80 processor running at 2mhz, but it also had two 8 inch diskette drives, each capable for storing about 330k of data each.
Jack filled at least 32 of these diskettes, using an early genealogy program called Genealogy, Compiling Roots and Branches also known as GCRAB for short. GCRAB was authored by John Armstrong, of Texas.
Jack published 3 books, using his clackity daisy-wheel printer (at that time state of the art) on the Bewley family and had many contacts everywhere regarding his associated families. He also published newsletters, "Bewley Roots", and "Holbert Herald".
Jack was one of the main cogs in the Ancestral Trails Historical Society, which is based in Elizabethtown, Hardin Co, Kentucky.   He served 7 terms as President, and 2 terms as VP.   For many years he maintained the groups mailing list on his TRS80.   He was also involved in many other groups, and a devoted husband and father.
Folks in the Fort Knox area will miss him, and Kentucky lost a good one. Note that most of Jack's GCRAB data has been converted over to IBM PC format, and it's my hope that his work will be carried on, into the future.
